At last, we are in to the pointy end of the season as they say. I call on the knowledge and wit of Gus Seebeck and Ian Parker to preview the AFL Sydney Premiership division grand final next weekend between the East Coast Eagles and the North Shore Bombers and we offer our fearless predictions of the outcome of course.
We also reviewed what we all agreed was the most exciting first AFL finals round of matches that we had seen for some years. Was it the bye round between the end of the home and away season that freshened up the top eight sides? Time will tell but I suspect the bye round at this junction between the home and away season and the finals rounds may become a regular part of the AFL calendar.
We also cogitated over whether Stevie Johnson would be penalised over the hit on Josh Kennedy in the Giants vs Swans match. And to wrap it up we learned of Gus’ intention regarding his son and playing for Richmond.
We are now down to six teams left in the finals with West Coast Eagles and North Melbourne Roos eliminated this week and another two will be eliminated in next week’s semi-finals. Geelong and GWS Giants get next week off and come back the week after in the Preliminary finals. Here are the results of week 1 and the fixtures for week 2:
