It is the 31st of December 2022 as I write this and the air is abuzz with the excitement of so many people eagerly anticipating the new year celebrations tonight. Some I know will be busily setting their new year resolutions, possibly with more success in achieving them than they have in previous years. Others will be assiduously mapping out their goals for the next year and onwards. A few may be looking back with regrets over events of the past year. The loss of loved ones perhaps. But mostly joyous anticipation of the new year and all that brings.
Not for me. I have been there, done that, on many such nights in the past, the most notable being the turn of the century on 31st December 1999. But for me now it is just another sunset, the end of another day, another month, and yes, another calendar year. What I look forward to now is waking up each and every morning to a brand new sparkling day, full of life, full of promise and opportunities. Where hopefully I will be privileged to have another day of life as this little piece of land upon which I sit makes its twelve or so hours trek across the face of the sun before turning into the darkness of space for another night.
For me that is enough. I start a new year every day.
