My first experience of the effects of energy that I can recall happened during a qi gong warm-up for a tai chi class circa 2006. As I moved my hands down, palms out, in front of my body my hands tingled in their very centre. I now know this area of my palms are in fact the lao gong points in the Chinese meridian system of energy points, one of the few points on the body where you may both receive and emit energy.
A week or so later these points made their presence felt in a real way that was to change my life.
One Saturday night my wife had several and consistent episodes of pain in her kidney area. As I was about to take the dogs for a walk the next morning my wife said that I may have to take her to a medical centre when I got back. My wife has been in the natural healing business for some 25 years so for her to go to a medical doctor was an indication that something was seriously wrong. My whole world tilted! The possibility that I could lose my new wife, whom I loved beyond life itself, shook me to the core of my being!
I just had to sit down on the side of the bed. As I reached out and took her hands in mine it was as if I had touched an electrical circuit. Starting at my feet this blast of energy roared up and vibrated through my body and out through the palms of my hands where they were clasped in my wife’s hands. It then settled into a savage shaking of my arms and hands. Fortunately I had the presence of mind and experience through recent personal development courses to just “go with the flow”, literally, and I kept our hands clasped as my arms continued to shake vigorously.
As I sat there with our hands clasped and my arms shaking, I thought how do I direct what I suspected was a healing force to best advantage for my wife. I was afraid that if I let go her hands we would lose contact with it. I gradually got a mental image of a kidney shape inside a ring of fire. There appeared to be a bar across the narrow part of the kidney shape. Maybe if I could move this bar, perhaps its removal could relieve my wife’s pain? As I focused on the bar it started to gradually move back down the narrow part. Amidst the shaking and the focus the bar eventually changed shape to look like skin peeling back similar to peeling sunburnt skin off as the sunburn heals. After some 10 or 20 minutes the bar disappeared and the shaking slowed down then stopped.
I looked at my wife who lay there fast asleep. I placed her hands gently on the bed trying not to wake her and went out for a walk with the dogs. All through the walk my mind was filled with trying to make sense of the amazing experience that had just occurred. It could only be the energy that I had heard of but had dismissed with some skepticism. Wow! Was it related to the earlier sensation during the qi gong exercise? How did my wife feel after it? If it works how do I turn it on?
When I returned home, my wife awoke and said something like “what was that?” but with much more emphasis. I had no real idea other than it was some sort of energy, but how did she feel? Her kidney pain had completely disappeared and has not returned since. No visit to the medical centre required!!
But it did start a journey of a different kind, one that led me to the study and teaching of qi gong, meditation and to a new spiritual awareness through Taoism and Zen Buddhism. I now realise that the closest modality I can find to compare this to is reiki but I have never studied or learnt reiki as a practice. I just know that energy transmission between living beings is real.
Real energy

That’s totally awesome, Stace. I have often wondered how much that unused part of our brain would be capable of. You have a great gift there. When the kids were young and liked being tucked in at night, his nibs would place the palm of his hand on their forehead and say a blessing for them every night.
