Granma

At the time of writing I have been running this blog for over 12 years and yet it is only now that I can comfortably write about possibly the most important woman in my lifetime, my grandmother, or just Granma as I used to call her. Mind you I was unable to even talk about her without bursting into tears until I had an EFT session with Jenny Johnston back in 2013 I think which helped me deal with that “little” issue. Well who was she and why was she so important in my life?

Born Evelyn Margaret Violet Cook in 1894 in Maldon, Victoria, Australia. Quite a mouthful but known affectionately and universally as “Vi” or Auntie Vi for most of her adult life. Sadly she lost her mother when she was only three but regrettably I have no information on who subsequently parented her as a child other than her father William Cook. I suspect that losing her own mother so young had an effect on her decisions taken in my early life. Another one of those myriad things that I wish I had been able to discuss with her.

The picture featured above this post is from Granma’s wedding which took place on the 8th of September 1915 to my grandfather Francis Albert Stacey. They went on to produce three children, Maxwell, Coral and Reginald, my father. Neither Max or Coral had any children so I was Granma’s only grandchild.
